
If you don’t know who Dana White is by now, I really don’t know what to tell you. If you know all about Dana White, you might be interested to know what his life is like day-to-day. Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Matt Youmans gets the scoop- a Day in the Life of UFC President, Dana White.
Starting the morning at 1:30 AM, a few nights before the “The Ultimate Fighter Finale”, White is in the middle of a 4-hour blackjack session at Palace Station Casino. White’s average blackjack hand is averaging $10,000 to $20,000.
Calling it a draw at 3:15 AM, Dana White heads home to get some shut eye. Arriving at his 7,500-sq-ft. home at 4:05 AM to shut his eyes, only to wake up after 4 hours of sleep. At 8:00 AM Dana White is up every morning to feed his kids and take them to school.
“I sleep probably three to six hours a night. The great thing about me is I don’t require a lot of sleep,” he says. “I don’t like sleeping. It actually bothers me. I wake up a lot. I’m always thinking about what needs to be done.
By 8:30 AM, Dana White is serving breakfast to his kids — sons Dana III, 8, and Aidan, 7, and daughter Savanna, 2. However, this is Dana’s routine during school season. During Summer, White’s routine changes. After waking up and getting ready, he quickly jumps in his Range Rover and drives to the UFC offices.
10:42 AM - White is tied up on his cell phone, talking to UFC vice-president of production and operations, Craig Borsari. White spends a chunk of his time with Borsari examining every aspect of various commercials and shows produced by the UFC.
11:50 AM - Lorenzo Fertitta needs a few minutes with White. More than a few minutes later, at 1:45 PM White runs into a close friend, Bobby Moore.
2:33 PM - White is back in his Range Rover heading towards the Palm’s. He receives a text message from Guy Ritchie, Madonna’s ex-husband, which requires a reply of the text.
2:47 PM - White is escorted through the casino only to be stopped by a man and his wife asking for a picture.
3:08 PM - Dana White gets excited when the subject turns to Keith Jardine-Wanderlei Silva bout of May 2008, which will be featured on the “UFC’s Ultimate 100: Greatest Fights”.
3:32 PM - White is followed out the back door to a trailer where the production/editing team goes to work. White does four reads of a radio ad for StubHub tickets. After nailing each take, White listens and approves 20 intro songs chosen per each fighter for their walk-in music.
3:46 PM - White is at the weigh-in inside the Palms, where hundreds of fans are gathered and the hype is building for “TUF” card.
4:18 PM - White delivers a motivational message, backstage to the fighters.
“It’s a big (expletive) night for you tomorrow. Fight your (expletive) asses off,” he says, and he offers incentives — $25,000 each for the night’s best fight, $25,000 for the best knockout and $25,000 for the best submission.
4:44 PM - White greets fans and poses for more pictures.
5:05 PM - Meetings, meetings, and more meetings, before he joins Lorenzo Fertitta for dinner where they talk business for a portion of the night.
Midnight - It’s back to Palace Station where White engages in another round of Blackjack.
“I like blackjack,” he says. “I don’t even know how to play poker.”
