UFC President Dana White confirmed today that Brock Lesnar had to withdraw from his fight against Shane Carwin at UFC 106 on November 21 due to sickness. Its being reported that Lesnar has been sick, possibly with the flu but not confirmed, for the past month and has been unable to train for his fight. With just a month before his fight, it was time to make a judgment call regarding his ability to properly train for his first title defense after unifying the title at UFC 100 against Frank Mir in July. Â
With the headliner out, the UFC has decided to promote the rematch of Tito Ortiz vs Forrest Griffin to main event status. This will be Tito’s first return to the Octagon since UFC 84 where he lost to Lyoto Machida by unanimous decision and Griffin’s first appearance after his embarrassing loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 101. Needless to say, both of these fighters have a lot to prove.
So when will Lesnar and Carwin square off? According to a post by Carwin, the fight has been rescheduled for UFC 108 on January 2. New Years in Vegas is sounding better and better.
