Finally, the first round of fights are over and quite possibly the best fighter was saved for last. Ex-NFL football player Marcus Jones of Team Rampage took on Mike Wessel of Team Rashad in the final fight of the first round of competition for TUF 10 Heavyweights.
As usual, before we get to see the fight, we got to see a bunch of grown men act like they were in junior high. The show started off replaying Quinton Rampage Jackson’s destruction of a cardboard door, in which Rampage graciously apologized… to the door.
Then we got to see Scott Junk with his two black eyes and Matt Mitrione complain that his brain was messed up, followed by Wes Shivers trying to hang on to his last 15 minutes of fame.
What happened next I believe was a huge mistake. Marcus Jones, aka “The Darkness”, aka “Big Baby” is easily the biggest, strongest and nicest guy in the house. Like bully’s on a playground, the insecure alpha males start to pick on the nice guy. Result: a cartoon rendition of Big Baby with the words “suck balls” on the bottom.
When Big Baby caught wind of the situation, The Darkness came out and threatened to break someone’s arm for writing “suck balls” as it was an insult to his family. (Guess who wrote “suck balls”? That’s right, it was Mike Wessell…….oooops).
Jump to fight: Wessell came out swinging with some huge over hand rights, unfortunately, Jones was too big and tall and none of them connected. Instead, Jones wraps up Wessell into a clinch, Wessell tries to trip Jones, Jones reverses and throws down Wessell. The Darkness quickly starts showing off his BJJ and moves from one submission attempt to another just man handling Wessell at will. Within a few seconds, Jones manages an arm bar from his back and quickly forces Wessell to TapouT.
After the fight, Dana White comments “I’m not a doctor, but I think his arm might be broke”. The insecure alpha males quickly realize they have woken up the giant.
Dana White and the Coaches then met with each winner in the first round to see who they would like to fight. In the end, the process was a little one-sided as the Coaches made sure their favorites got their pick. McSweeney, easily the biggest weasel on the show, and friend of Rashad since they train together, got Mitrione, easily the worst of the remaining eight, although he did prove his hands have some KO power. Jones, Rampage’s only fighter to win, deferred to his coach for advice on who to fight next. Rampage quickly chose Darrill Schoonover who Rampage has been quarreling with since day one as he continues to call Darrill “titties”.
Once again, Rampage did not quite think this one through, as Darrill has beaten up his fair share of ex-NFL players, just ask Rex Richards.
Below are the quarterfinal match-ups for TUF 10 Heavyweights followed by a few clips of last night’s show courtesy of the UFC.
- Roy Nelson (Team Rashad) vs. Justin Wren (Team Rashad)
- Brendan Schaub (Team Rashad) vs. Jon Madsen (Team Rashad)

Tune in next week as they keep alluding to Kimbo making a comeback.
