TUF 10 Heavyweights

The 10th season of The Ultimate Fighter has finally come and gone and they saved the best for last.  On the main card, only one fight went the distance and ironically, it was KO kings Kimbo Slice and Houston Alexander going three rounds with Kimbo out pointing fellow banger Alexander.

In the co-main event, controversy engulfed the UFC again as Steve Mazzagatti DQ’d Jon Jones for a “12 to 6″ elbow on Matt Hamill that ended the match.  Of course, the controversy lies in the fact that Jon Jones had thrown 80+ punches to Hamil’s head prior to the elbow and had even managed to separate Hamil’s shoulder in the process.  During the melee, Jones looked up at Mazzagatti twice questioning when he was going to stop the fight.  Mazzagatti claimed Hamill was still defending, although one shoulder was broke and he did not throw a single punch.   After utilizing video replay for the first to determine the illegal elbow had actually caused the cut that ended the fight, Mazzagatti gave Jones an unexpected and undeserved loss on a perfect record.  Rumor had it that front man Dana White was so pissed off, he refused to attend the post fight conference.  Needless to say, the loss will not appear to hurt Jones’ future in the UFC as he handled the controversy with grace saying “everything happens for a reason” and expected to learn from the experience and only get better.

In the main event, Roy “Big Country” Nelson faced off against Brendan Schaub for the six figure contract with the UFC.  As the fight got started, Nelson immediately went for the belly crucifix but Schaub managed to escape and get back to his feet. As the fight stayed standing, it appeared Schaub’s reach would play a huge role in the outcome of the match, but the more experienced Nelson eventually lined up the right hand and caught Schaub behind the ear for the knock out late into the first round.  The evening ended with Roy Nelson jumping on top of the cage and rubbing his fat belly.  I suppose its better than shooting the finger ala Brock Lesnar.
