Evans defeats Griffin

This was a very close result. Forrest Griffin had the advantage for the first two rounds, but in the end Rashad “Sugar” Evans defeats Forrest Griffin via Tapout/ TKO in Round 3. Forrest kept Rashad dancing in the beginning of the fight while both of them exchanged fists. Rashad tried to push some power punches, but Griffin kept his concentration and refuted with even more extreme striking and combos. It seemed like the end for Rashad, but in round 3 he surprised everyone. Rashad Evans defeats Forrest Griffin using excellent ground and pound technique in Round 3 and now holds the UFC Light Heavyweight Title.

Frank Mir dedeats Nogueira

This was an awesome bout. Frank Mir had the advantage the entire time. It almost looked like Nogueira was luring Mir in, but Mir wasn’t falling for the bait. Every time Nogueira went to the ground Mir would jump up and away, letting Nogueira back up on his feet. At the end of the bout Mir was victorious via TKO in round 2. As Mir makes his victory walk around the Octagon, he points at Brock Lesnar with intentions of winning the official UFC Heavyweight belt in their upcoming bout. Later, when Mir gives his victory speech he speaks of putting a break on Lesnar that will make history. Mir put on a great fight tonight.

Rampage defeats Silva

After two consecutive losses, Quinton Rampage Jackson defeats Wanderlei Silva. Jackson vs. Silva was the second fight on the UFC 92 pay-per-view card. UFC wants to make sure to keep their viewers entertained. Rampage had the advantage the entire fight. In the end Rampage won via left hook to the jaw in round 1.

Silva looked like he did something wrong in preparation for this bout. Maybe he wasn’t ready for Jackson’s new boxing technique? Either way, Quinton Rampage Jackson will go home a happy fighter as he celebrates his revenge on the “Axe Murderer”.

Cheick Kongo Vs. Mostapha Al Turk
In the first round Cheick Kongo catches a kick and takes Mostapha to the ground. Turk quickly positions himself and jumps to his feet. Kongo dominates the first half of the round, and then Turk delivers a low knee to the groin. Timeout is called to let Cheick Kongo catch his breath. Now Kongo looks determined to win. They go at it. Few more minutes go by… and now Kongo knees Turk in the groin. The favor has been returned. Another break is called. Both fighters have had enough time now to celebrate the holidays all over again. Now Kongo just exploded. Ground and pound!!! Elbows to the face all night long… Al Turk’s face is split open. That’s it. The fight is over. Cheick Kongo via TKO in the first round.

Wanderlei Silva Vs. Quinton Jackson
Wanderlei goes into his corner confident with an already, 2 – 0 record against Rampage Jackson. Jackson enters with a serious look on his face. You can really feel the drama between the two. The fight is on. Rampage with the first right hand, they start exchanging. The crowd is cheering. Rampage seems to have the slight advantage. They’re both dancing around. Silva is throwing a few kicks. Silva seems to have learned a few tricks from Griffin on Jackson’s weak legs. Wait a second! It’s over Quinton Jackson just knocked out Wanderlei Silva via left hook to the jaw in round 1!

Dan Evensen Vs. Pat Barry
In round 1 both fighters are exchanging fists. Half way into the bout it goes to the ground. Pat Barry gets on top and makes it difficult for Evensen. They get back to the ground. Few seconds later, Barry delivers a leg kick that finished the bout. Pat Barry wins via TKO in round 1.

CB Dollaway Vs. Mike Massenzio
Both contenders come into The Octagon looking confident. They touch gloves. CB Dollaway is aggressive and is dominating the first few minutes. However, Massenzio throws some left jabs and hurts Dollaway. Dollaway is getting rocked! CB Dollaway survives. Massenzio takes him down. CB Dollaway just survived a giateen. They get back up and exchange for a little bit. CB Dollaway is one tough fighter. Dollaway gets Massenzio to the ground now. They’re grappling on the ground. CB Dollaway is now on Massenzio’s back. That’s it. It’s over by submission. Dollaway via TKO in Round 1.

Matt Hamill Vs. Reese Andy
This bout started fast. They jump around for the first round. Matt Hamill gets cut under the right eye. They circle around for a majority of the first round exchanging fists. Overall, Matt Hamill dictated round one. Round 2 begins with an even exchange of blows to the upper body. Hamill delivers a knee to Andy’s face. They’re dancing around again. Matt Hamill delivers a left hook to the body. That looked like it hurt! Hamill takes Reese Andy to the ground and is now dominating Andy on the ground with strikes. Matt Hamill does it. Hamill wins via TKO in Round 2.

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira Vs. Frank Mir
A very exciting bout is about to start. Frank Mir and Rodrigo Nogueira are dueling for the interim UFC Heavyweight Championship. The winner will go off to face Brock Lesnar for the official heavyweight title. Mir enters the Octagon with motivational intro music. Minotaur Nogueira looks calm and relaxed as he enters. Here we go… the bout has begun. Frank Mir attempts a high kick to the head. It’s blocked by Nogueira. Mir is coming strong in round 1. Mir is on top of Nogueira. Mir lets Nog stand up. They’re exchanging gloves again and Mir is dominating. Nogueira is waiting for the right moment. Frank Mir is the aggressor in this round. Nogueira is keeping cool. He seems very calm. Mir delivers a punch to the face that knocked down Nogueira. Mir doesn’t go for the finish. He lets Nogueira get up. They’re exchanging again. The tables are turning a bit. Nogueira is landing a few punches. Frank Mir brings a kick again and knocks down Nogueira again. Round 1 is over. Frank Mir wins Round 1 with really nice boxing skills.

Round 2…

Round 2 begins with a Mir kick. They do some standup dancing and connect for a few seconds. Nogueira is keeping his pace and waiting for the right moment. A punch from Frank Mir that knocks down Nogueira again! This time Mir goes for the finish. That’s it, the fight is over. Frank Mir wins via TKO in Round 2. The new UFC Interim Champion, Mir points his finger at Brock Lesnar. Antonio Nogueira looks very disappointed.

Forrest Griffin Vs. Rashad Evans
The final event of the evening is now underway. Rashad Evans challenges Forrest Griffin for the Light Heavyweight Championship. Rashad Evans enters the Octagon first looking very confident. He enters the ring dancing to a goofy song. The lights dim as Forrest Griffin makes his powerful entrance. It’s going down! Round 1 is underway. They come out dancing. The crowd is cheering – “Forrest, Forrest, Forrest…” They’re still dancing around. Both fighters are quick with their striking. Forrest is landing a few kicks. Now, Rashad lands a kick. This is an exciting bout. Both fighters are confident. Forrest attempts a string of punches but Rashad is quick. Rashad Evans attempts a hard knockout punch but its stopped by Griffin. Evans leg looks a little hurt. Forrest throws a kick again, and Rashad lands a kick. Forrest is fierce as he strikes with Evans. The crowd starts cheering for Forrest again. Forrest lands a huge kick to the ribs. Forrest misses with the Super Man punch. Round 1 has come to an end.

Round 2…

Round 2 begins with Evans landing a few punches. They dance and Forrest attempts a high kick. Rashad Evans backs far away. Evans lands another jab. Rashad is showing a lot of speed in round 2. Forrest doesn’t want to stand for it. He refutes the punches. Forrest is attacking. Rashad blocks. Forrest lands a huge leg kick. Rashad lands a huge punch at the same time Griffin lands another kick. Rashad has a smile on his face as they dance again. Forrest has a huge reach leg reach advantage against Rashad. Forrest throws a leg kick. Rashad answers with a leg kick. Rashad attempts a combination of punches to the face. Forrest Griffin finishes Round 2 with his own combo.

Round 3…

Round 3 begins. Forrest throws another kick. Rashad Evans catches the leg! Forrest is on the ground. Rashad Evans is ground and pounding! Forrest survives the ground and pound. They’re on the ground now with Griffin on the bottom. Forrest looks tired. Rashad lands a huge elbow. Forrest is looking for the triangle. Rashad is still on top. Rashad is landing huge punches! Forrest taps!! That’s it – it’s over! Rashad is the New Light Heavyweight Champion via Tapout in round 3!

The UFC 92 broadcast is about to start and I wanted to get in my predictions for the Big 3 before the action begins.

  • Griffin loses to Evans (2nd round knockout).
  • Nogueira submits Mir in 3rd round.
  • Silva knocks out Jackson in 1st round.

Best match will be Silva vs. Jackson.
